Who we are

Painted (painted.app) is a studio that paints from a line you type, a photograph you upload or a drawing you make, and sells the results as files, prints, canvases, garments and gifts. It is operated by PaintedApp, LLC, reachable at paintedalways@gmail.com or by post at 1327 SE Tacoma St #394, Portland, OR 97202. This page says what we collect, what we do with it and how to have it removed.

What we collect

• The line you type, kept with the painting it made so the plaque and the workroom can show it. It is never shown on a share page.
• Photographs and drawings you upload, kept in private storage, used only to paint from and to show you the result. A drawing made in the frame is saved as an image the same way.
• Attestation for a child. When a photograph or drawing shows a child, we require that you are signed in and have ticked that you are the child’s parent or guardian. We keep that tick with the painting. A painting that contains a child is never given a share page.
• The seed you chose. Which museum scan, if any, a painting was seeded from, so the credit can ride on the plaque.
• Exposure and title. The exposure you approved and the title you typed, kept with the painting and baked into the files you receive.
• Account details: your email address and a password we store hashed, when you sign in.
• Plan and payment records: which plan you hold, the paintings it granted and the ones you used. Card details go to Stripe and never touch our servers.
• Recipient addresses and notes when you order a print, canvas or garment for yourself or as a gift: the address, the name and the note you write are passed to the printer that makes and ships it, and kept with the order.
• A visitor cookie and your IP address, used to give one free painting a day to a visitor without an account. See Cookies.
• Patron palettes: five colour swatches sampled from a painting you hung, and the name you give them.
• Mail you send us.

Where your images go

To paint, we send your line, your photograph or your drawing, our instruction for the hand you chose and, when you chose one, the museum scan to OpenAI’s image models (gpt-image-1, gpt-image-1-mini and gpt-image-1.5) through their API, which returns the three frames. When a photograph is uploaded, an automated check first looks at whether it can be painted from and whether it shows a child; that check is also a model call. For a print, a file may be enlarged by Claid.ai before it goes to the printer; museum scans are never enlarged. Prints are made and shipped by Prodigi and Printful, who receive the file and the delivery address. We do not sell your images, share them beyond these providers, or use them to train a model.

Share pages

A share page exists only when you turn it on for a painting you have hung. It shows the painting, its title, its plaque and one door to the studio, to anyone who has the link; it is not listed in our sitemap and asks search engines not to index it. It never shows your line, your photograph, your drawing, your name or your account. Turning it off removes our page and our image at once. A copy someone saved while it was on is theirs, and we cannot recall it.

Why we may use it

• To paint what you asked for and show it to you (performing our contract with you).
• To take payment, make and ship what you ordered, and send the confirmation and the tracking (contract).
• To give one free painting a day to a visitor and to hold the daily limit on an account (our legitimate interest in keeping the studio open).
• To answer your mail (legitimate interest).
• To refuse what we will not paint: a child without a parent’s attestation, a living artist’s name, content our moderation refuses (legitimate interest and legal obligation).

How long

Paintings, lines, photographs and drawings stay while your account does. A session made without an account is kept so its free painting can still be claimed; nothing is deleted on a schedule today, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time. Orders and payment records stay seven years for tax. Share pages last until you turn them off. Ask and we delete sooner, except what tax law makes us keep.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, a correction, or deletion, and you can object to a use or ask us to stop. Write to paintedalways@gmail.com from the address on your account. We answer within thirty days. If you are in the EU, the UK or California, the rights those laws give you apply here; we sell no personal information and do not share it for advertising.

Children

The studio is for adults. We do not knowingly take an account from anyone under 18. A child may appear in a painting only with a parent or guardian signed in and attesting to it.

Changes

When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it, and a material change is announced on the wall before it takes effect.
