Three painters take every line at once. They are three image models from OpenAI, gpt-image-1, gpt-image-1-mini and gpt-image-1.5, each given our instruction for the hand you chose, plus one line of our own that pushes each engine a different way, over a blank prepared canvas. The first to finish hangs; all three wait in the workroom.

The hands are ours: for each era and each painter we describe the light, the ground, the palette, the stroke and the surface, and we judge the results against real paintings before a hand goes on the shelf. What we do not do is name or imitate a living artist, or copy any picture.

We are a family of artists, passionate about the act of creation. Some of us have been creating for seventy years, long before any of this technology existed.

Nearly all of the AI art we see doesn’t inspire us, and we became fascinated by the idea that we could build something better. If we are successful, the oil paintings we create in our studio can hang in our own homes and don’t need to be advertised to support our family. The whole story is on the About page.

One painting a day, without an account: three frames, watermarked, on this wall for a day. Sign in and it stays on your wall. A plan or a purchase removes the mark and gives you the file at full size.

The hung frame, full size and unmarked, is $19. All three frames, $29. A Masterpiece, a typed line or a drawing and never a photograph, $15. By the month: Sitter $12 for 15, Collector $29 for 50, Patron $79 for 200 paintings. Prints, canvases and garments are priced on the order page, before you pay.

After, always. The order page is only reachable from a painting you have hung, and the frame you hung, with the exposure you approved, is the file that is printed or sent.

It is yours for personal use: print it anywhere, at any size the pixels carry, give it, hang it, wear it. It is not for resale, stock, advertising or training a model. The full terms are on the Terms page.

Every scan on the shelf is public domain or CC0 and says which museum holds it, with a link to the museum’s own record. As a seed, it lends a painting its brushwork and light, never its subject, and the credit rides on the plaque. As a print, it is the scan itself, never upscaled, and only at sizes it carries at 150 pixels an inch; a scan under 2,000 pixels on its short edge is not sold.

Yes, signed in, with the box ticked that says you are their parent or guardian. Photographs and drawings that show a child are refused without it. A painting that contains a child is never given a share page.

The painting, its title, its plaque and one door to the studio. Never your line, your photograph, your drawing, your name or your account. Turn it off and our page and image are gone; a copy someone already saved is theirs, and we cannot recall it.

Half a stop darker to a full stop brighter, in tenths, under each frame. The value you approve is baked into every file you receive: the preview, the share image, the download, the print. It is the one edit the studio offers, and it is a real one.

No. Every painter on the shelf has been gone seventy years or more, and we do not take a living name in a line. Modern artists cannot be named or imitated; what we can do is take the styles they inherited and make them our own for you. That is the Moderns shelf: airbrush, spray paint, risograph, gold leaf, each described by its palette, mark and surface, none by a name.
