A family of artists

We are a family of artists, passionate about the act of creation and our priceless animals who just so happen to be the light of our lives and our best friends. Some of us have been creating for 70 years and we recognize that times change so we have decided to embrace these changes and lean into how beautiful and fun this new technology can be. The speed of creating art has accelerated and ideas can become reality in days or weeks rather than months or years, therefore we built this as a space to share our love for art, life, and the spaces in between.

We hope that you are just as overjoyed as we are watching your best friend turn into a classic work of art. In fact, we hope that you want to hang that new masterpiece on your wall, wear it as a tee, a sweatshirt or a hoodie.

This site was borne of the realization that nearly all of the AI art that we see doesn’t inspire us, so we became fascinated with the concept that we could build something better which is more inspiring, beautiful and fun for the public. If we are successful, the oil paintings we create in our studio can hang in our own homes and don’t need to be advertised to support our family. No matter what, we hope that you appreciate what we created here, and we look forward to seeing what you and your best friends paint!

What we saw in Kyoto

As a family of artists, we have become fascinated by the new AI technology which is metastasizing and (understandably) frightening the art world as a whole. In early 2026 we visited the Kyotographie festival in Kyoto, Japan and were fascinated to tour a dilapidated, ivy embraced former dormitory filled with oversized AI landscapes that Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre created with AI, each showing a dystopian wasteland, such as one piece featuring the Pyramid at the Louvre broken, gray and lifeless. To be frank, I preferred their earlier work documenting true urban decay in Detroit and elsewhere and only one of these AI pieces was impressive to me while the others felt forced and half-baked, but that is what makes art so beautiful to begin with. We recognize that it is scary and emotionally intense to expose your work to the world, and we appreciate those who create. We mention this trip because most of the AI work doesn’t resonate with us either.

On that same trip to Japan we saw the photo museum in Tokyo and the work of Rinko Kawauchi was mind bogglingly personal and powerful. Seeing artists like Kawauchi or the Daido Moriyama retrospective in Kyoto was powerful in ways AI art may never become, and we appreciate that reality. That being said, we see a challenge in creating beautiful, personal art with AI and we are experimenting often with the medium.

All of which has led us here today, having encountered quite a few rendering websites which did not speak to us. In the end, the reality is that it is very challenging to create portraits from this technology today, and we spent months refining our techniques before publishing these websites. Many of these works are inspired by previous artistic techniques because they are part of the canon of the world’s art traditions, making them recognizable and emotionally resonant. Outside of the Painted family we have also created a huge catalog of original work for ourselves which may be released at a later date, but today we see these pieces as a way to connect with our fellow humans by allowing them to personalize the art in their closets and on their walls. We wanted to make this a contribution to the commercial art market, and we have 20 studios open and 10 more on the way. We hope that you have fun here, and that you find at least one piece of new art that you like.

The house rules we keep

• Every painter on the shelf has been gone seventy years or more, with dates on the card. No living artist is named or imitated, here or in a line you type.
• Every image on this wall was painted in this studio and judged before it hung. Museum scans hang with their painter, museum, licence and source, and are never upscaled.
• Nothing is bought before it is seen and hung; nothing of yours is shown beyond the share you chose.
